Dr. Amy Wilson is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist. She joined Charlottesville Psychological Associates after many years of successful private practice in Atlanta. She received her B.A. from the University of Virginia, and her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. She completed her residency training at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Dr. Wilson specializes in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, and adjustment issues such as grief and divorce. She also specializes in treating posttraumatic stress disorder and sexual trauma. She has received special training in Mindfulness-Based interventions for stress reduction, and integrates this approach into much of her work with clients. Dr. Wilson works with adolescents and adults, and provides therapy for individuals, couples, and families. She also works with children and adolescents having behavioral and emotional difficulties, and incorporates Parent-Training into her approach to treatment.
Dr. Wilson also has considerable training and experience in Forensic Psychology, specifically in the areas of Family and Civil Law. She conducts Custody Evaluations, serves as a Parent Coordinator, provides Co-Parenting counseling/training, and provides treatment for clients involved in litigation. She is also trained in Collaborative Law. In addition, she works closely with attorneys to assist clients in adjustment to divorce and coping with difficult custody-related issues. Dr. Wilson has provided expert witness testimony and consulting services in both Family Law and Civil Law Courts.
